Born Orenthal James Simpson on July 9, 1947, in San Francisco, California, he rose to fame as a standout running back at the University of Southern California, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1968. Simpson's success continued in the NFL, primarily with the Buffalo Bills, where he became the first player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season, earning him a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Simpson transitioned to a career in acting and broadcasting following his football success, with notable roles in movies such as "The Naked Gun" series and a stint as a commentator for Monday Night Football. His charm and charisma made him a household name beyond the sports world.

However, Simpson's life took a dramatic turn in 1994 when he was charged with the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. The highly publicized trial ended in his acquittal in 1995, but he was later found liable for their deaths in a civil trial. In 2008, Simpson was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas, serving nine years before being granted parole in 2017.

Despite his tumultuous personal life, Simpson maintained a complex legacy. His athletic achievements are remembered as some of the greatest in football history, while his legal troubles sparked nationwide debates on race, justice, and celebrity.

While his life was marked by both greatness and controversy, Simpson's impact on American culture and sports will not be forgotten.
