**Obituary: Edwina Nonie, Beloved Educator and Community Pillar, Passes at 76**

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Edwina Nonie, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted community servant, who left us on May 29, 2024, at the age of 76. Edwina succumbed to complications from Alzheimer's disease, which she faced with grace and courage.

Edwina Nonie passed away on 29 May 2024.

Born on March 12, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Edwina was raised in a vibrant household where she developed her lifelong passion for music and education. She pursued her studies in education at Tulane University, graduating with honors. Edwina's career as an elementary school teacher spanned over four decades, during which she touched countless lives and inspired generations of students with her dedication and love for teaching.

Edwina’s contributions extended beyond the classroom. She was an active member of her local church, where she led the choir and organized numerous community outreach programs. Her commitment to service was evident in her volunteer work at local shelters and food banks, where she provided support and care to those in need.

A loving mother and grandmother, Edwina cherished her family above all. She married her high school sweetheart, James Nonie, in 1970, and together they raised three children—Catherine, Daniel, and Rebecca. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she found immense joy in their company, always eager to share stories, songs, and wisdom.

Edwina’s warmth, kindness, and unyielding spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her home was a gathering place filled with love, laughter, and the sweet sounds of her piano playing. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, leaving behind a legacy of love and community spirit.

Edwina Nonie is survived by her husband James, her children Catherine (Mark), Daniel (Emily), and Rebecca (Thomas), and her five grandchildren. Her family, friends, and the countless students she mentored will carry forward her spirit of generosity and dedication.

A memorial service will be held on June 4, 2024, at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, followed by a celebration of her life at the community center she helped establish. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Edwina Nonie Educational Fund, supporting aspiring teachers.

Edwina Nonie will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, education, and community service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
