Netanyahu Rejects Arrest Bid Over Gaza War Crimes
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has furiously condemned the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) prosecutor's demand for arrest warrants.
According to BBC, the prosecutor of the ICC asked for arrest warrants against Netanyahu alongside Hamas leaders over the war crimes in the Gaza conflict.
Upon which Netanyahu said that he, with disgust, rejects the comparison of ‘democratic leaders of Israel' with what he called ‘mass murderers'.
The chief ICC prosecutor Karim Khan said there are reasonable grounds to believe that the Israeli Prime Minister, along with Defense Minister Yova Gallant, bore criminal responsibility for war crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Netanyahu called his arrest application an ‘absurd and false order’ in a public statement in Hebrew.
He asked, “With what audacity (the ICC would) dare to compete (Hamas and Israel).”
Netanyahu also accused the prosecutor of “callously pouring gasoline on the fires of antisemitism that are raging across the world".
US President Joe Biden also supported Netanyahu's statement, saying there is “no equivalence, none, between Israel and Hamas. It's clear Israel wants to do all it can to ensure civilian protection.”
US Secretary of State Antony Blinked also condemned the warrant, saying Washington ‘fundamentally rejects’ the move, “It is shameful, ICC has no jurisdiction over this matter.”
