Obituary: Iryna "Cheka" Tsybukh, Aged 25

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Iryna "Cheka" Tsybukh, a bright and beloved soul who left us far too soon at the age of 25. Iryna passed away on May 28, 2024, after a courageous battle with leukemia, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

The Hospitallers Paramedics team mourns the irreplaceable loss of their valued member, combat medic Iryna "Cheka" Tsybukh, aged 25.
Tragically, she passed away yesterday in Kharkiv Oblast.
“I want children. I want a house. I want to plant tomatoes... but the most important thing is to end the war,” Iryna once said, and her words now immortalized by the colleagues.

Born on October 15, 1998, in L'viv, Ukraine, Iryna, affectionately known as "Cheka," brought light and joy to everyone she met. Her laughter was infectious, and her spirit indomitable. Iryna's life, though short, was filled with remarkable achievements and an unwavering zest for life.


Iryna's academic journey was a testament to her brilliance and dedication. She graduated with honors from L'viv University, earning a degree in International Relations. Her passion for global cultures and diplomacy was evident in her work and aspirations. Iryna was fluent in five languages, a skill she used to bridge gaps and foster understanding among diverse communities.


Beyond her academic and professional endeavors, Iryna was deeply committed to humanitarian causes. She volunteered extensively, lending her time and skills to various non-profit organizations focused on refugee support and women's rights. Her compassion and empathy were boundless, and she inspired many to join her in making the world a better place.


Iryna was also an artist at heart. She found solace and expression in painting and music. Her artwork, vibrant and full of life, was a reflection of her own spirit. Friends and family often gathered to listen to her play the piano, where her talent and passion shone brightly.


Iryna is survived by her parents, Oleksandr and Tetiana Tsybukh, her younger brother, Andriy, and her beloved partner, Maksym. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her kind heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love.


A memorial service to celebrate Iryna's life will be held on June 5, 2024, at St. George's Cathedral in L'viv. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the International Rescue Committee, an organization close to Iryna's heart.


Though Iryna "Cheka" Tsybukh time with us was brief, her impact was profound. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and inspiration that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
