International Criminal Court Seeks Arrest Warrants For Israel And Hamas Leaders

The International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants for Israel and Hamas leaders, including Benjamin Netanyahu .

The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, declared on Monday his intention to pursue arrest warrants for key figures in both the Israeli government and Hamas leadership.

As per AP News, Khan singled out Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yova Gallant, and three Hamas leaders, Yehia Sunward, Mohammed Deify, and Ismail Haniyeh alleging their involvement in war and crimes against humanity during the seven-month-long conflict between Israel and Hamas.

However, this significant move marks the first time the ICC has targeted a top leader of a close ally of the United States.

Despite Israel's non-membership in the ICC and the absence of immediate prosecution risks for Netanyahu and Gallant, the potential issuance of arrest warrants may prevent their ability to travel internationally.

Speaking of the Israeli actions, Khan said in an official statement, noting, "The effects of the use of starvation as a method of warfare, together with other attacks and collective punishment against the civilian population of Gaza are acute, visible and widely known.

He further added, "They include malnutrition, dehydration, profound suffering and an increasing number of deaths among the Palestinian population, including babies, other children, and women."

According to UN officials, the Israeli offensive, launched in response to a cross-border attack by Hamas in October, has led to a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, displacing around 80% of the population and leaving many on the edge of starvation.
