We are saddened to announce the passing of former BPL star Magalan Ugo Chukwu Awala on June 24, 2024, at the age of 45. Magalan passed away peacefully at his home due to complications from a long-term illness.

Born on April 10, 1979, in Lagos, Nigeria, Magalan's football talent was evident from a young age. He rose to prominence in the Barclays Premier League (BPL) as a dynamic midfielder known for his agility, precision, and unwavering determination on the field. His career spanned over a decade, during which he played for several top clubs, earning accolades and the admiration of fans worldwide.


Magalan was more than just a football star; he was a mentor and inspiration to many young athletes. After retiring from professional football, he dedicated his time to coaching and youth development programs, helping to nurture the next generation of football talent. His passion for the sport and his community left a lasting legacy.


Off the field, Magalan was a loving husband to his wife, Ada, and a devoted father to their two children, Ifeanyi and Nkem. He cherished his family and was a source of strength and support for them. His warm personality and kind heart endeared him to all who knew him.


Magalan's legacy extends beyond his football achievements. He was an advocate for charitable causes, particularly those focused on education and sports development in Nigeria. His philanthropic efforts have made a significant impact, providing opportunities and hope for many underprivileged youths.


He is survived by his wife Ada, his children Ifeanyi and Nkem, his parents, and his siblings. Magalan's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, fans, and the countless lives he touched through his work both on and off the field.


A memorial service to celebrate Magalan's life will be held on July 2, 2024, at St. Mary's Church in Lagos. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Magalan Awala Foundation, supporting youth sports and education initiatives in Nigeria.


Magalan Ugo Chuckwalla will be deeply missed but his spirit and contributions to the world of football and beyond will never be forgotten.
