 James "Jimmy" Dalmedo, a renowned drum major and beloved community figure, passed away on June 10, 2024, at the age of 76 due to complications from heart disease. Born on April 15, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jimmy Dalmedo was surrounded by music from an early age. His passion for rhythm and performance led him to pick up the drumsticks at a young age, and he quickly became a standout performer in his school band. His exceptional skills and innate ability to lead soon earned him the title of drum major.

Dalmedo's career as a drum major spanned several decades, during which he inspired countless young musicians and performers. His tenure with the New Orleans High School Marching Band is particularly noteworthy. Under his leadership, the band won numerous competitions and accolades, becoming a symbol of excellence and pride for the city.

In lieu of flowers, the Dalmedo family requests donations be made to the James Dalmedo Youth Music Scholarship Fund, established to support aspiring musicians in achieving their dreams.
