Joyce Josephine Brown Farris, age 82 of Winchester, TN, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Bailey Manor after years of declining health due to cause of dementia.

Joyce Josephine Brown Farris, age 82 of Winchester, TN, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024


Joyce was born on December 23, 1941, in Winchester, to the late Elbert LeRoy Brown and Bessie Christine (Fin chum) Brown. In addition to parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Brown and great-grandchild, Ellie Marie Owens.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband, David L. Farris of Winchester;

children's, Chris L. Stephens of Shelbyville, Marshall D. (Lisa) Owens of Winchester, and Cathy D. (Chris) Sanders of Estill Springs; grandchildren; Craig Sanders, Stephen Sanders, Ian Sanders, Matt Stephens, Braxton Owens, Elizabeth (Stephen) Gray and Ashley (Ken) Dabbs; great-grandchildren; Nathan Gray, Amelia Gray, Daniel Owens and Briley Owens; siblings, Leonard (Charlotte) Brown, Robert (Marylou) Brown, William (Joyce) Brown, Linda (Terry) Mason all of Cowan; Phillip Brown of Winchester, and Jimmy (Gwen) Brown of Estill Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

Among her many jobs, Joyce worked as a medical transcriptionist at Winchester Hospital, Emerald – Hodson Hospital in Sewanee and the Eyecare Center in Tullahoma. She also was a Lifestyle reporter for the Herald Chronicle.


Joyce enjoyed traveling and trying new things such as parasailing, helicopter rides, white water rafting and indoor skydiving. She loved to take pictures at every family gathering and was a creative lady through her paintings, writings, and scrapbooks. Joyce enjoyed having a good time and was the first person on the dance floor and the last to leave. She will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 2:00pm -4:00pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with funeral service following at 4:00pm from the chapel with Chaplin Jerry Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Cowan Montgomery Cemetery with Craig Sanders, Stephen Sanders, Ian Sanders, Matt Stephens, Braxton Owens and Nathan Gray all serving as pallbearers.
