Ruth Teets, a beloved educator and community volunteer from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, passed away at 82 due to complications from a stroke.

Born on November 3, 1941, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Ruth was the daughter of Eleanor and William Teets. She developed a love for learning early in life, which she carried into her studies at Penn State University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Education. Ruth began her teaching career in 1963, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with countless students over her 40-year tenure at Harrisburg Elementary School.

Ruth's influence extended beyond the classroom. She was an active member of numerous community organizations, dedicating her time and energy to causes close to her heart. Ruth volunteered at the Harrisburg Public Library, where she led reading programs for children, and served at the local food pantry, ensuring that those in need received support and care. Her tireless efforts earned her the Community Service Award in 2010.

Ruth's compassion and dedication were evident in every aspect of her life. She was a mentor to many young teachers, offering guidance and support as they embarked on their careers. Her colleagues remember her as a source of wisdom and inspiration, always ready with a kind word or helpful advice.

Ruth is survived by her two children, Michael and Susan, and four grandchildren, who remember her as a loving mother and grandmother with a heart full of kindness and a spirit of generosity. Her family and friends will miss her dearly, but her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on June 11, 2024, at the Harrisburg Community Church, followed by a celebration of her life at the Harrisburg Community Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Harrisburg Public Library in Ruth’s memory.

Ruth Teets’s dedication to education and her community will be fondly remembered. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and a life well-lived.
